NEWS - 03/12/2008 - IEC TELECOM proud sponsor of the V + R Challenge

The Virtual + Reality Challenge is an ambitious project which has 3 goals:

- The Reality Challenge is a 10.000km run between Paris and Beijing
- The Virtual Challenge is a scientific project, its goal is to help the research in virtual reality progress and allow the general public to take part in the run with a 3D online relay.
- A humanitarian operation for the NGO Sports Without Borders, each kilometer (both real and virtual) becoming a donation for this association.

The run is carried out by Philippe Fuchs, a researcher in virtual reality, professor at the école des mines in France and marathon runner by passion. This incredible project brings together his work and passion.

The virtual relay is led by Dassault Systèmes. It allows the public to participate through a V + R Challenge application on Facebook, to track Philippe´s progress on a dedicated website and to help the research.

IEC TELECOM provides Philippe with different products - BGAN and Iridium - which will allow him (and his staff) to upload to its web site pictures, videos ... and stay in touch with his friends and family (calls, SMS), even in remote places like Mongolia and the Gobi desert.

We wish Philippe luck. He left Paris on March 7., the arrival in Beijing is expected during the Olympic games this summer.

NEWS - 01/15/2008 - Thuraya-3 Satellite successfully launched

The third Thuraya telecommunications satellite has successfully been launched by Sea Launch on Jan. 15th, 11h49 GMT.

This new satellite will allow Thuraya to embark on their major expansion plans and provide their mobile satellite services to the Asia-Pacific region during the first quarter of 2008.

In a press statement following the launch, Thuraya’s CEO Mr. Yousuf Al Sayed, stated “The launch of Thuraya-3 is a significant milestone in the Company’s progress and growth, and in reinforcing Thuraya’s status as dynamic, world leading, multi-regional mobile satellite operator. We have launched three Geo-mobile satellites so far, all by Sea Launch, and all have been very successful."

IEC Telecom congratulates Thuraya for this launch. Its services will now cover markets in Japan, China, Australia and Korea.

The sat will be ready to serve following a thorough on-orbit check-out that will last about one month.

NEWS - 12/09/2007 - Exclusive distribution agreement IEC Telecom / ThurayaDSL

The IEC Telecom/SAFA group, based in both Paris and Dubai, will be distributing ThurayaDSL products in all markets.

The IEC/SAFA group will also support ThurayaDSL for customers and service providers, with marketing and technical assistance.

NEWS - DHAULA GUERI 2003
From September 28 to November 2nd 2003, the Dhaula Gueri association got involved in a true environmental expedition to Nepal.

The aims of this project was double :
- Cleaning of the base Camp of Dhaulagiri. Located at 4 630 m of altitude below the Northern face of Dhaulagiri (8 167 m), at three days (at least) of walk of the nearest village , this base camp is soiled by many waste of all kinds left by many mountaineers and trekkers.
- an prevention action will be lead also. An "environmental Charter of the trekker" proposing a certain number of measure to be taken to avoid the dissemination of waste will be published and posted on wood panels which will be placed along the route of the Dhaulagiri trek.

We provided this expedition in satellite material (Thuraya and Rbgan Modem) so that they can communicate between them but also to be every day on line from Nepal with the pupils of five schools of the valley of Chamonix...

Everest 50: the fiftieth anniversary expedition.

In spring 2003, it will be fifty years that men overcame the 8850 m of the Everest. To mark the event, Jean-Michel Asselin, Amnye Machen Productions and Global Expeditions have organized the most important expedition towards the Everest for 10 years.

Each member is equipped with a Thuraya terminal and a Rbgan terminal is in the base camp so that the team can transfer pictures and reports to european newspapers and magazines.

IEC on top of the world with Martine Larroque

New challenge for Martine Larroque in 2002, famous French mountaineer internationally known and settled in Dubai : the ascent of the Everest (8850 m)to support Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and raising funds for needy.
Thanks to IEC TELECOM and its subsidiary in Dubai SAFA, Martine had the opportunity to keep in touch with her relatives and all her staff even in the most extreme conditions.

IEC is proud to have participated in this human adventure by providing her with a Thuraya terminal and Inmarsat high speed data airtime in partnership with France Telecom.

Thus, all along her tour, Martine have been able to keep us informed of her progress by calling us and sending us emails and pictures.
